While keeping the principle of royalty and filial piety, and having the strong spirit to not fear death for the right things, the person who was always prepared by reading literature and without envying rank and wealth; this is the meaning for scholars in Joseon Dynasty.


People who were accepted to the public office but rather studied than working at the public office were called scholars. This house is the house lived by Joseon Dynasty scholars. Like the house where scholars lived, the inside of the house has Drawing Wing in the middle in square (ㅁ) form, and unusually, the annex is composed of 2 floors. Also, there is a pond with gazebo next to the Drawing Wing where people can relax and become friendly with the nature. To the inner part of the inside of the house passing the pond is shrine that enshrines ancestral tablets of ancestors. In contrast to the outstanding and big Yangban house, the scholar’s house is provided for scholars to continue with learning.
