[55] Shrine Five-Colored Fabric

There are five-colored fabrics of blue, red, yellow, white, and black fluttering on the old trees in the peak of the mountain or the entrance of the village. These trees were called Seonang-dang. Seonang-dang is a type of shrine that serves the village guardian Seonang.

Our ancestors believed that a wish comes true when stacking three stones while passing by Seonang-dang. Also, the five-colored fabrics tied to the trees have the meaning of blocking demons or evil spirits coming from the east, west, south, north, and the center. For the peace and welcoming of the village, Joseon Dynasty people thought of the Seonang-dang very sacredly, and people gathered in this place on the first day of the first month of the year for ancestral rites.
