The scholars from Joseon Dynastywho wanted to get away from chaotic secular society and live in ease, enjoyed the nature by building Byeolseo Garden. ‘ Byeolseo’ is today’s villa, a space away from housing area with outstanding natural view shaped like a tower or a pavilion where people can spend all four seasons or just one season.

A squared pond was usually made in front of the Byeolseo, and usually pine trees, apricot flower, chrysanthemum, and bamboos that symbolized spirit and integrity of scholars were planted. One of the representativeByeolseo Garden of Joseon Dynasty includes Soswaewon Garden in Damyang-gun, Gwanghallu Pavilion in Namwon city, and Dosanseowon Confucian Academy in Andong. The Byeolseo Garden of this place is WanHyangRoo and has the meaning of ‘Playing with the Scent’. Enjoy the freeness of Joseon Dynasty scholars at this place like its beautiful name.
