Beautiful melody flowing in the island village, the island of JindoArirang.
What were the houses of Jin Island like? When looking at the wall of Jindo house, there are big rocks here and there on the mud wall.
Like the local characteristic, Jindo is famous for strong wind and a lot of rain.
Thus, the houses had thick walls made of soil and rocks so that the wind and rain does not come inside the house.
Also, the temperature is steady during all four seasons so ondol and floor are arranged as the same size.
There is also unique space in Jindo house that cannot be seen in other regions. It is called ‘Marae’.
The appearance of Marae looks like a regular room, but the unique characteristic is that the room was used as a shrine serving god. Like this, each house of Jindo had marae to pray to the guardian protecting the house.
The people of Jin Island probably prayed to be safe in the harsh nature.
