[39] House in the Central Part

This house is a restored farmhouse from Ssangdae-ri, Sinpung-myeon, Gongju-gun, Chungcheongnam-do. The house includes various elements essential for a farming household, such as a storage room, a barn, a vegetable garden, and a chicken coop.

The storage room and barn are located together and also function as the main entrance. The chicken coop is separate, as chickens, along with cows, were commonly raised in traditional Korean households and significantly impacted the household's diet. In the past, eggs were collected and stored in bundles made of straw, which could hold about five eggs. Today, eggs are stored in cardboard cartons that can hold up to 30 eggs. The barn was used to house cows, which played an important role in farming, especially for plowing the fields with a plow. Cows were treated with great care, as they contributed greatly to the household's agricultural work. The presence of many livestock in a household was often a symbol of wealth and prosperity, and during the New Year's celebrations, the ritual of "Jishinbalgi" (Earth God ritual) included prayers for the fertility and prosperity of livestock.
