[35] Keum-Ryeon-Buddhist temple

At the entrance of all Buddhist temples have Ilju Gate. The pillars are in one line where it is called ‘Ilju’. Injumun Gate is door that has the meaning of the boundary with the world and that truth is one. When passing through this door, the Buddhist temple Keum-Ryeon-Sa within the Korean Folk Village appears.

This Buddhist temple was built around 100 years ago, and it was recovered at the time when Korean Folk Village was built in 1978. The main Buddha statue of Keum-Ryeon-Sa is the Amitabha Buddha that symbolizes belief of praying for gentle and easy death, but there is also the characteristic of enshrinement of the ‘Guardian Spirit of Mountain’ who protects the mountain along with the god ‘Big Dipper Buddha’ who controls the life of humans. Keum-Ryeon-Sa has the building arrangement of the Buddhist temple of the late Joseon Dynasty. Especially, Geungnakbojeon Hall, which is the Buddhist sanctuary of Keum-Ryeon-Sa, was transferred from the Buddhist sanctuary in Yuseong of Daejeoncityas it is, and the building was covered with Geumdancheong at that time. Every spring, along with the lantern ceremony, Keum-Ryeon-Sa holds other Buddhist ceremonies to celebrate the birth of Buddha.
