[11] House in the northern part

This is a restored traditional house that was originally located in Unhak-ri, Sinanju-myeon, Anju-gun, Annam-do. In Korea's northern regions, various aspects of residential culture reflect the wisdom of daily life developed to endure the harsh winter. This particular house consists of seven buildings arranged in a unique layout.

The main quarters (anchae), gate quarters (munganchae), men's quarters (sarangchae), and storage quarters (gwangchae) are positioned in a square (ㅁ-shaped) formation to block the wind. The pillars are placed closer together, and the entire floor area is equipped with ondol (Korean floor heating) to improve indoor heating efficiency. Additionally, the roof is built relatively low, and the bottom edges of the thatched roof are extended downward to prevent the thatch from being flipped or damaged by strong winds.
